We are embarking on a new series to help you make the most of every corner of your home. To start it off, it’s time to take a second look at a piece you likely may already have – shelving – and invigorate it with new life with Bloomingville.
Established in 2000, Bloomingville is a Nordic inspired accessories brand that encourages you to find your inner designer. The everyday designer is an expression of how we all create the spaces that surround us. We decide for ourselves how we want to decorate our homes when it comes to design and style. Whether you’ve just moved into your first apartment, the forever family house, or are the owner of a café by the beach, or the new-age downsizer, we all live differently but have a common thread to create happy changes in our home environment. Bloomingville sees and understands the joy created through change, big or small.
Our expert Stylist, Rhianna, may make styling look easy, but there are some key pieces of advice for you to take away and practice in your own home. We’ve put these tips into practice using key pieces from Bloomingville to update the Ethnicraft Teak Studio Rack. The Studio Rack’s varying shelves and openings make it the perfect piece to have fun with and change with the seasons.
“I will always keep a few common elements running throughout the shelf, whether that is colour, shape, texture or materiality. This doesn’t mean all elements have to be common in every piece you choose, that can make it seem forced and over curated.”
For this piece, the starting point was the small original works by Tegan Lloyd; Nepean Bay, Portsea & Gunnamatta Walk. These earthy textural artworks not only inspire the colour story for the shelf, but also the textures. Rhianna has selected textural ceramics over glass or sleek smooth finishes to tie into the artwork. Key pieces being the Maham Stoneware Flowerpot, Tangle Stoneware Votive – Green and Crina Stoneware Vase – while they are all different finishes and colours, they still all tie back into the artwork.

“All you need is just a few repeats (can be small) of say a colour or a curved shape or a stone finish to create an overall sense of cohesion and not a bunch of completely random things.”
The vertical lines of the Maham flowerpot are repeated in the Guney Stoneware Vase, while the beautiful Quartzite brown marble features in the Lenora Marble Bookends and the Isabea Tall & Short Marble Votives and the Madisson Marble Tall Candlestick. This natural stone further complements the themes of the art and the irregular patterns of the ceramic pieces.

The beauty of a natural stone is that no two pieces are exactly alike. Each is a unique piece of art forged by mother nature over millennia using heat, pressure, and lots of different minerals and organic materials. The way these minerals settle into the stone is what causes the huge array of colours, patterns, texture, and veining in each slab. Other pieces in this material from Bloomingville include the Majsa Marble Square & Rectangular Tray and the Addie Marble Tray.
