Everything you need to know about…Travertine

Travertine, you’ve seen it everywhere. From floors, walls, bench tops and now most of your favourite furniture and decor pieces are made in this amazing material. But why? Travertine is such a timeless piece, its neutral colour palette and stunning surface texture created through make it the perfect backdrop for your styling pieces in any space.It really does go with everything!

First you might be asking, what is Travertine? Pronounced [Tra-vər-teen], it is a form of limestone, formed at the mouth of hot springs or limestone caves. Characterised by it’s marble like texture and stunning earth-tone colours, it is exactly what you might be missing in your home.

Travertine has been used in many famous buildings and construction throughout history, because it occurs around lakes, valleys and other natural water sources it is a common building material dating back to first Dynasty of Egypt in 3200 BC, stylish well before their time right!

Travertine is most commonly found in white, tan, or cream colours but can also range from grey blue to reddish coral, depending on where in this big beautiful world it is sourced from. The stone naturally has organically shaped pits and pores within which allows water to run through. For our large furniture pieces we fill the holes during production to create a smooth, luxurious finish. Travertine itself is very durable and resistant in various weather conditions, and like any natural stone, it won’t burn, go rusty or change colour, how good!

    Hi, Do you know the best way to clean travertine please? I have some stubborn stains on my travertine coffee table. Thanks!

      It’s best to contact your retailer as stones are treated differently, on many of our travertine products (but not all) you can lightly sand the surface.
