Everything you need to know about…Boucle

Textures are a staple in any successful space in your home, office or workplace. As designers, we use texture to add a sense of comfort and visual interest. These can be used to create a certain feel, look or mood, evoking sensory responses in you and your guests as you experience the space.

Boucle, we are seeing it everywhere in today’s design trends and we can’t get enough of it. Here at Trit it is a key fabric in our styling and designs, but how much do you really know?

Lets start simple, people pronounce Boucle many different ways, so don’t get caught out next time you’re deep in design language, it is pronounced [BOO] + [KLAY] which is derived from the French word ‘loops’, pretty easy right?

Boucle isn’t a new textile either, it’s an old trend that has come back to life in recent years and girl, what-a-comeback. Reoccurring trends is something that has become a habit in modern society, they feel familiar, they evoke emotion and they bridge the gap between old and new. As designers calling on the past is a great way to add layers to a design and boucle is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to inspiration

Originating in the 1940’s by Architect Florence Knoll and designer Eero Saarinen, this classic texture is of a ‘nubby’ textile made from a yarn of ‘curled fibres’. Typically made from a series of lopped fibres, wool being the most common. Though cotton, linen and silk have also been used to achieve this distinct texture.

Here at Trit, boucle is remained through modern designs, on trend colours and our signature oreo boucle finish. Take a look at some of our key pieces

Here our Half & Half Lounge Chair by Aleksej Iskos for Wendelbo, this chair catches the eye with it’s interesting shape, it’s name coming from Iskos’s idea of an occasional chair being half functional and half sculptural. The upholstery in coloured boucle is the ultimate old/new mix, perfect for a contemporary interior.

If you can’t commit to an all white couch or bed for that matter, our Oreo boucle is perfect for disguising those wine accidents, or your kids little mishaps. But even in single colours the textured fabric fares better than most flat styles.

Our Hampton Sofa, in Oreo Boucle is the perfect piece to add style and class to your home, transforming your living space with its unique shape profile and materiality

The Dina Bed, which comes fit for both a queen and a king (size). Stands strong with a high level of detail and complexity and is of course the perfect spot to rest your head after a long day.

Our Hudson Sofa invokes a sense of style with its open and welcoming embrace. Featured in this light creamy Boucle fabric, makes for the ultimate relaxed living space and will add ambience to any home.

A truly beautiful piece, the classic Nysse Chair takes a sentimental stance on relaxation and provides a soft statement in any room. This chair’s timber frame contrasts perfectly with the Milk Bigello Boucle, made from the highest quality European yarns that is long lasting and perpetually soft.

So, now you have all the key information about Boucle, it’s time for the important stuff, working it in with your interior. Be inspired by our favourite boucle products, to help spark the designer in you.
