Deciding on the perfect sofa can sometimes feel overwhelming. There is so much that goes into it, right? Sometimes all of these factors can make the decision making feel impossible. To make things even harder, at Trit we have what feels like a never ending stream of sofas to customise, so the options are truly endless. That’s why we thought we would break it down for you, to fast track the decision making and ensure you are feeling confident once you sign off your order on a brand new, one of a kind custom sofa.
So, what do you need to think about?
1. What use will the Sofa be getting?
First thing to think about, in order to rule out options, is where will the sofa be going, and what will the usage be like? Will it be a piece that seats the family daily, or perhaps it will be going into the formal room which won’t be getting as much use. This will easily narrow down the size, and which fabrics to be looking at.
For high traffic usage, we always recommend looking at fabrics which have a blend in the composition. Meaning, the fabric is not 100% natural materials. Although natural materials do have a softer, more premium feel about them, they can sometimes take a bit more effort in terms of care and maintenance. If you’re worried about children and pets we suggest looking at fabrics such as Boucles, or fabrics which have the likes of polyester, viscose, acrylic in the blend. This will take the hassle out of cleaning, as synthetic or semi-synthetic materials do not stain as easily as natural fibers. Our signature sofas Hampton, Tilly and Hudson are perfect for family settings, and can all be customised to your liking.
So what if you’re after something more formal? Premium Danish brand, Wendelbo, is probably what you’re looking for. From commercial grade fabrics to Italian leathers, this is a brand that features products to leave you in awe. Every sofa can be customised in their huge range of fabrics and leathers, and as an added bonus each sofa comes with a wide variety of modules to choose from. To make it even better, you can also customise the comfort level to make any sofa firmer or softer as you wish. One of our favourites at Trit from Wendelbo is the Maho sofa, which has an impressive 43 modules to pick from. Making this an opportunity to have a one of a kind piece in your home.
2. What size, configuration will work best for me?
When working out which sofa to select, it is important to know what restrictions you may have in terms of sizing. This will eliminate a few choices from your list. It’s also a great idea to look at sofas which have different modules to choose from. The Baker Sofa by Sketch Interior, is a great example of this. You can make this as big or little as you desire, and still take away the exquisite design features.
Again, Sketch Interiors has a huge variety of fabrics or leathers to choose from, depending on your needs. Recently the Alabama leather range has been added into the Sketch Interiors selections, which is a leather designed to act and feel like a full aniline leather, however is actually a semi aniline leather which makes the maintenance a little easier. This is another great brand which allows you customise the comfort level on each piece as well, talk about custom!
Knowing your parameters within your space makes the choosing a lot easier, as you know exactly what you should be looking for and with our range at Trit, we are certain we will be able to offer you a sofa that will fit perfectly into your home.
3. What is your style?
Lastly, what do you like personally? It’s all well and good to see what is popular online, and what can be considered “trendy”, however if what you are seeing online isn’t speaking to you, find out what is! There are endless style options available these days, and adding your own personal touch to it makes the space even more special. Getting offline and heading into showrooms is the best first step to better understand what you do and don’t like.
